£15m boost for 2012 skills
A Greater South East (GSE) regional partnership in the UK has targeted £15m (21.9m euro) of European Social Funds towards a new initiative to support the employment and skills needs of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The initiative, called On Your Marks, involves the Learning & Skills Councils and Regional Development Agencies from London, the south east and the east of England. The primary aim for the project is to enhance industry employment and develop a skilled workforce to deliver the London 2012 promise.
Each Greater South East region will provide funding across the construction, logistics and sport and leisure sectors to develop training and qualification programmes.
Tenders for funding of projects taking place between June 2006 and July 2008 are now being accepted. Contracts will be awarded this summer. Details: www.onyourmarks.org.uk
