2009 French Grand Prix scrapped
The 2009 French Formula One Grand Prix has been scrapped after the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (FFSA) pulled out as the event's financial backer.
It will be the first time since 1955 that France has not been a part of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile's (FIA) Formula One championship calendar. A statement from the FFSA said: "For reasons induced by the economic context, the FFSA has decided to cancel the Grand Prix de France."
The FFSA has promised to refund people who had already bought tickets for next year's race, which was due to be held at Magny-Cours circuit in central France over the weekend of 26-28 June. It was also announced by the FFSA that it will be considering six circuits to host future French Grand Prix events, most of which are located near Paris.
