2012 organisers reveal more ticket details
London 2012 organisers have revealed that more tickets than originally planned will be made available for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has revealed more details about its ticketing strategy to coincide with the launch of a 'sign up' registration scheme. According to LOCOG, prestige hospitality tickets will account for less than 1 per cent of the amount due to be put on sale, with 75 per cent set aside for the public via a ballot process.
The number of tickets for Olympic events has been increased from 7.7 million to 8 million, while 2 million tickets will now be available for Paralympic competitions, compared with initial plans for 1.5 million tickets. Tickets will go on sale from spring 2011 although the public is being encouraged to 'sign up' now to find out first when tickets are made available and how to apply.
LOCOG chief executive officer Paul Deighton said: "Right now, we're asking people to sign up on the ticketing website and make sure they're in the front row for information. "Ticket sales make up a significant part of our income, but at the same time we are completely committed to ensuring our events are accessible, that tickets are affordable and that our venues are packed to the rafters with sports fans."
