£37m K2 Crawley centre opens
Crawley Borough Council unveiled the new £37m K2 Crawley leisure centre last month.
Designed by S&P Architects – who are also working on the aquatic centre for the London 2012 Olympics – and operated by leisure management company DC Leisure, the facility boasts a 50m Olympic-size swimming pool.
The pool includes a moveable floor to offer a deep diving area and two booms which allow the pool to be split into three.
The centre also includes a 12-court sports hall with seating for more than 1,400 spectators; an eight-lane floodlit athletics stadium; a 150-station gym equipped by Life Fitness; a climbing wall; a gymnastics training hall; two indoor bowls rinks; five squash courts; two aerobics/dance studios; a martial arts room; a multi-use games area; an artificial turf pitch, three meeting and function rooms, treatment rooms, sauna and steamrooms, a crèche, bar and café.
Located on the Thomas Bennett Community College campus, the facility was funded mainly by the sale of Crawley’s former leisure centre site and offers dual use for the community and sports college activities.
