70m euro spa hotel planned for Lappeenranta, Finland
Construction work is expected to get underway later this year on a large €70m (US$93m, £59m) spa hotel in Lappeenranta, eastern Finland.
The property will be owned by a joint venture between two Finnish property investment companies - Ultivista and Conte Invest.
Called Huhtiniemi, the project will include three interconnected parts - a 14-story; a 4,000sq m (sq ft) resort spa; and a 7,000sq m (sq ft) space which will house a number of spa villas.
The project will have a total of 500 beds - divided into 350 hotel beds and 150 in the spa villas.
The development will be built by Buildia, a construction company set up by the joint venture to deliver the project.
Exact details of the spa facility are yet to be confirmed but it is believed that there will be more than 15 treatment rooms, a range of indoor swimming pools, a sauna world and a relaxation area offering panoramic views across the Lake Saimaa.
According to a spokesperson, the owners are currently looking for an "international-standard" operator to manage the property. It is hoped that the hotel and spa will open to the public during early 2014.
