@Futsal opens first site
A company planning to roll out a portfolio of Futsal centres around the UK has opened its first site at an industrial estate in Swindon.
@Futsal has converted a former warehouse into the first dedicated futsal arena in the UK. The facility includes two five-a-side pitches and a smaller youth pitch. The two larger pitches can be converted into a full-sized futsal pitch suitable for international competition.
Other amenities at the centre include a penalty simulator, a warming up area, a physio room and a café.
@Futsal was founded by managing director Frank Rodriguez, co-founder of property services company Covion, which Rodriguez sold alongside partner David Steventon for £33m in 2007. Steventon is currently chair of @Futsal.
According to Sam Bailey, spokesperson for @Futsal, the company is planning an aggressive expansion strategy.
"The aim is to have up to 30 arenas within the next two to three years," Bailey said.
"The next site will be located in South Wales, and we plan to open in all major cities, including Birmingham, London and Manchester."
Bailey added that each site will be around 20,000sq ft to 40,000sq ft in size.
