ACE reveals latest Sustain grants
Arts Council England (ACE) has published the list of recipients for the latest round of grants to be handed out from the council’s Sustain fund.
It is the seventh round of awards to be made out from Sustain, which was set up to offer help to organisations struggling with the effects of the recession.
The latest round will offer financial assistance to 27 arts organisations and the combined worth of the grants will total £8m.
The single largest grant was awarded to the Leicester Theatre Trust, operator of the Curve theatre (£1.03m), while the smallest handout was made to the Natural Theatre Company in Bath (£77,000).
Others include The Roundhouse in London (£800,000); the Brighton Dome and Festival (£611,000); Whitechapel Gallery (£480,000) and Warwick Arts Centre (£215,000).
More than £41m has now been invested through Sustain, while a further 13 applications requesting a further £6m are still under consideration. ACE received a total of 194 applications for Sustain funding.
Alan Davey, chief executive of ACE, said: "Sustain has been crucial in helping more than 130 arts organisation weather the effects of the recession.
"It's been a vital interim support, but now is the time to look to the next challenges and ensure that the right conditions are created to maintain artistic excellence in the long-term.
"We're determined to build on the successes of recent years to make sure arts organisations can continue to produce groundbreaking work and play a major role in our collective economic future."
