Arts Council England (ACE) and the National Archives have entered into a new partnership that will see the two organisations work for the "collective benefit" of museums, libraries and archives.

The memorandum of understanding will lead to collaboration in a number of areas, including the sharing of expertise to develop opportunities presented by emerging digital technologies.

Working more closely together, the two organisations will also work to deliver programmes such as the Museum and Archives Accreditation and helping to secure 'at risk' collections.

It follows the transfer of responsibilities to both ACE and the National Archives following the closure of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council late last year.

ACE chief executive Alan Davey said: "This partnership recognises the shared values that underpin both the Arts Council and The National Archives.

"I hope that by working together we can deliver even better value by making it easier for people across the country to connect with archives, museums and libraries."

National Archives chief executive and keeper Oliver Morley added: "Working together we will share knowledge, expertise and create the opportunity for resource."
