Active Life upgrades Kingsmead Leisure Centre
Active Life has recently completed a £700,000 upgrade of Kingsmead Leisure Centre in Canterbury.
The project was financed and managed by Alliance Leisure, which worked with Zync Design and leisure building specialists, Createability.
Neil West, the trust’s chief executive, said that the original motive for the project was that “the reception, staircases, corridors and catering areas were refurbished ten years ago and looked tired.”
However, in order to maximize revenue potential from the revamp, a feasibility study was drawn up which showed the potential for improvement of the leisure centre’s fitness facilities.
Subsequently, the old café area was transformed into a studio for ‘quieter’ fitness activities – such as pilates – and three treatment rooms while the gym was doubled in size.”
The project was done in two phases to cause as little disruption as possible and to maintain revenue.
