Admissions down as nightclub competition intensifies
The UK's smaller nightclub operators are suffering from a fall in admissions and spending as competition among late-night venues intensifies, according to the latest report from Mintel.
Spending in nightclubs dropped 13 per cent from 1997 to 2002, while admissions fell by 2 per cent during the same period, as punters stay longer in pubs and bars with late-night licences.
Operators are also suffering from the increase in price competition, which has intensified in the last 18 months, as the high street has become saturated with late night venues. The major multiple club operators suffered less, enjoying increasing turnover, albeit at relatively slow rates. Luminar continues to be the clear market leader.
