Andrews urges parks sector to reach out
Baroness Kay Andrews, the minister responsible for parks, has laid out government plans for increased community involvement in parks and green spaces.
Speaking at GreenSpace's Parks for People conference, Andrews said the local government White Paper, Strong and Prosperous Communities, encourages community action to improve open spaces.
She said: "The Local Government White Paper makes the community the champion for their neighbourhood and parks.
“The parks sector needs to reach out to all sections of the community and find out what local people want from their parks.
"The Park Life report tells us that young people in particular want to be consulted and we need to develop innovative ways to engage and involve them.
“We need to continue to build on the success of our Living Spaces programme, which harnessed the commitment and enthusiasm of people of all ages and backgrounds to work together to transform their parks and neighbourhoods."
