Architect appointed for Calgary's East Village
Masterplans for the regeneration of Calgary's east village in Alberta, Canada, are being designed by London-based architect Broadway Malyan on behalf of the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC).
The East Village Project includes new arts and cultural facilities, a promenade and an urban beach as well as a new residential development for 12,000 residents, which will be built on the 55-hectare (135-acre) city centre site. There will also be new footbridges and tree-lined walkways to link between the city and the Bow River front. It is understood that the East Village area has already seen CMLC invest $220m (£153m, €168.4m) into the project and cost estimates for the entire revamp have reached as high as $1.2bn (£0.8bn,€0.9bn).
