Arts Council changes its name
The Arts Council of England has spent £70,000 changing its name to 'Arts Council England' as part of moves to create a more streamlined organisation.
From 17 February the Arts Council's new logo will read Arts Council England. The system of regional boards with their own names, such as Northern Arts, will end. A simpler grants system will reduce to five the 100-odd schemes to which individuals or organisations can apply.
However, while applications will now be made through London, they will be administered by regional offices so applicants have a local figure for consultation and advice.
During the three years from 2003-2006, £25m will be earmarked for individual artists through open application programmes. The Council says the portfolio of regularly funded arts organisations across England will see an increase in funding from £230m in 2002/03 to around £300m in 2005/06.
Gerry Robinson, chair, said: 'Our ambition is to place the arts at the heart of national life and we are planning a bold programme of investment to achieve that aim. We want to back new and emerging arts as well as world class arts.' www.artscouncil.org.uk
