Arts Council makes £93,000 National Lottery award for disability arts
Arts Council England has awarded a £93,000 National Lottery grant to Nottinghamshire-based Salamander Tandem to develop disability arts across the East Midlands.
The funding, which will cover the next two years, will allow Salamander to continue its Project 20 scheme, which runs arts training and mentoring schemes for a wide section of people with disabilities throughout the region.
As part of the project, Salamander will offer an training course, called Arts Work with People, and other professional development opportunities for arts, healthcare and education professionals.
A number of arts venues across the region, such as QUAD (Derby), First Level (Rowsley, Derbyshire), Nottingham Contemporary and New Art Exchange (Nottingham) will take part in the activities.
Salamanda Tandem was established 20 years ago by dancer and musician Isobel Jones, who with other professional artists worked to involve people with disabilities or members of other disadvantaged groups in the arts.
