Athenaeum Club to open in Essex this month
The privately-owned Athenaeum Club is set to open on 15 September in Rochford, Essex.
Facilities at the 62,000sq ft club, managed by Antoine Becalglia, former managing director of the Gymnase Club chain in France – now Club Med Gym – include a 25m swimming pool, 3m spa bath with four sculpted hydrotherapy beds, a green slated steamroom, tylarium and sauna.
An eight-room therapy suite will offer holistic and beauty treatments, using products from Aquae Sulis. There will also be a gentlemens barber offering wet shaves, hot towel treatments and Indian head massage.
The 2,300sq ft gym has been equipped with cv and resistance equipment by Oxide and offers personal trainers and a stress management coach. Pilates, yoga, strength and fitball classes will be available in the 1,025sq ft studio.
Set in a five-acre estate, Athenaeum – designed by architect Nigel Baylis – will also boast three tournament-sized tennis courts and two squash courts; a 64-cover silver service restaurant called Elysium; a 30-cover bistro; billiard room; piano lounge and library.
The club aims to attract 2,500 members with a joining fee of £500 and monthly subscription of £95. Details: www.theathenaeumclub.com
