The Aussie Junior Barras team performed extremely well at the Arafura Games winning the Pool section of the competition with a total score of 259 points.

In the end it was a close competition with the Junior Barras only a few points ahead of second placed Hong Kong on 254 points and third placed Singapore on 244 points.

Over 100 highly skilled lifesavers from China, Singapore and Hong Kong along with athletes from around Australia competed in a range of pool events in the International Lifesaving competition of the Arafura Games.

The International Lifesaving competition determine the competitor’s ability in lifesaving with events simulating real situations which a lifesaver could encounter.

The four male and four female member team, the Junior Barras, representing Australia as a development team competed in both the Pool and Beach section’s of the Arafura Games.

James Evans, the Junior Barra’s team coach was extremely pleased with the team’s performance in the pool. He went on to add “the aim for the team was to win the pool section of the Arafura Games so with that achieved the team deserves congratulations”.

In the women’s pool events, the stand out performers for the Junior Barra’s were Queenslanders Pamela Hendry and Zichxyna Mikol who had a number of top three placed finishes.

In the men’s team pool events James Macguire from Queensland, Ben Hannaker from Victoria and Jackson Parkes from New South Wales all performed well with a number of top three finishes.

The Junior Barras a pool based lifesaving team continued their good form over to the beach events of the International Lifesaving competition with a number of top three finishes including winning the male and female surf teams event.

However, Hong Kong backed up their strong pool performance to win the overall Lifesaving Team title at the Games with the Junior Barras taking out fourth place overall after the beach competition.
