Author's former home welcomes visitors
Agatha Christie’s 1950s holiday home near Brixham in Devon will be restored and opened to the public as a visitor attraction.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded £800,000 towards refurbishing the Grade II-listed Greenway House, which dates back to the 18th Century.
The entire contents of the house – including a set of the author’s 1st edition books – will be catalogued and presented to visitors.
New access paths and transport links to the site, including ferries from Torbay and Totnes, will also be established.
The gardens – open to the public since 2000 – receive 28,000 visitors each year, which the National Trust hopes to increase to 60,000 with the added attraction of the house.
Nerys Watts, HLF manager in the south west, said: “The house and contents have never before been seen by the public and this is a fantastic opportunity to secure their future and open them up for everyone to explore and enjoy.”
A learning programme, community activities and interpretation materials such as a website, virtual tours and leaflets will also be launched.
