Ayr MSP calls for tourism boost
The MSP for Ayr is calling for his home county to be made a key tourism destination for Scotland.
According to the Ayrshire Post, John Scott appealed to Scotland’s tourism minister Jim Mather to back his proposal during the Scottish Parliament’s question time last Thursday’s (4 December).
The local paper quoted Scott as saying: “When Scotland’s economic development agencies were restructured last year, Enterprise Ayrshire was scrapped and replaced with a new strategic body covering Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire. The same regional grouping is also used by VisitScotland.
“One way in which Ayrshire could be helped in terms of boosting our crucial tourist industry would be for the Scottish Government to support Ayrshire’s designation as a key tourism destination.
“This is a matter I will be following up with the government to press home our case for a tourism boost.”
