BAA reports drop in passenger numbers
Airport operator BAA has posted a 0.6 per cent decrease in the number of passengers it handled during August, when compared with the same period last year.
Passenger numbers at the group's three Scottish airports - Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen - fell by an overall 4.2 per cent, while London Stansted saw numbers decline by 6.1 per cent. However, London Heathrow passenger numbers increased by 2.5 per cent during the period, driven primarily by European scheduled traffic. Business travel also helped Heathrow's performance.
A BAA spokesperson said: "Relative to other UK airports, Heathrow benefited from its greater exposure to the business travel sector, while the other UK airports in the group depend more on the currently weak UK outbound leisure market."
