BBPA calls for Jubilee opening hours boost
Publicans should be able to open for longer to mark the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games next summer, according to the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA).
The trade group has called on Prime Minister David Cameron to agree to extended opening hours after it was found that this year's Royal Wedding boosted the pub sector by £660m. BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds said: "Pubs were right at the heart of celebration up and down the country on Royal Wedding Day, and the government deserves credit for the extended opening hours so people could really enjoy the day.
"As everyone turns their minds to next summer's huge celebrations - the Diamond Jubilee and the national showcase that is London 2012 - let's give pubs the chance to play their part in getting the party started."
