BOA launches 'Countdown to 2012'
The British Olympic Association (BOA) has launched the first annual publication to chart the progress of the British squad up to the London Olympic Games.
‘Team GB 2005: Countdown to 2012’ collates statistical information from the performances of athletes in every Olympic governing body, to give a ‘Relative Olympic medal table’ which the BOA will use to measure annual performance progress.
The document also details the BOA’s new roles, responsibilities and objectives, which include the delivery of the London Olympic Institute, which will become the organisation's new headquarters.
BOA chair, Colin Moynihan said: “With the chancellor’s commitment of £600m in the run-up to 2012, the challenge is to make sure that every pound reaches the Olympic governing bodies and talented athletes, giving them the best possible opportunity to fulfil their potential.”
Chief executive, Simon Clegg added: “If there are gaps in performance, we must recognise them now and work to support those sports – both Winter and Summer – in any way we can.” Details: www.olympics.org.uk
