The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced that it plans to support at least 500 athletes as part of Team GB at the 2012 Games.

Under the plans, Great Britain will be putting out its largest team for more than 100 years, with the British team for the 1908 London Games comprising 676 athletes. International qualification standards for each sport are set to be released ahead of this summer by the International Olympic Committee and international governing bodies.

BOA chair Lord Moynihan said: "We won't be taking any passengers with us and we will set exacting standards that ensure the athletes who represent Team GB are truly the Best of British."
