BRIC routes boost Heathrow traffic figures
New figures from airport operator BAA has found that the number of passengers travelling through Heathrow Airport grew by 2.3 per cent last month, compared with March 2010.
Heathrow's performance was enhanced by significant increases in traffic to Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC), with Brazilian services recording a 29 per cent hike. Elsewhere, BAA's three Scottish airports - Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow - all posted a growth in passenger numbers, although Stansted and Southampton figures declined.
Meanwhile, Heathrow Airport has announced that it has withdrawn plans for a new rail link - Airtrack - connecting Terminal 5 with London Waterloo, Guildford and Reading. Surface access director Allan Gregory said: "We've listened to the concerns raised by local residents about the impact of Airtrack and worked hard to try and resolve issues including level crossings.
"Despite our considerable efforts, including discussions with Network Rail and the local highway authorities, we have been unable to develop solutions which fully address these concerns."
