BTA backs Freedom to fly campaign
The British Tourist Authority is backing the Freedom to Fly campaign launched this week.
The campaign argues that without more capacity, plane users will be subject to more delays, higher prices and less choice. Jobs, business, tourism and the British economy would also suffer.
The Freedom to Fly Coalition, made up of member organisations including the CBI, British Tourist Authority, unions and airlines, will lobby government to make changes effecting the future of the long-term aviation industry.
The aim of the coalition is to get the government to commit to a long term plan for air travel and avoid Heathrow trailing behind other European airports.
The British Tourist Authority warns that the multi-billion pound tourism trade depends on Heathrow remaining Europe's number one gateway airport.
Sue Garland, Deputy CEO of the British Tourist Authority said: As an island, aviation is vital to tourism. Two thirds of all overseas tourists arrive here by air and Britain is fifth in the world tourism earnings league.
The coalition plans to organise regional events to back up its national campaign and will be making announcements about what they will involve in the near future.
