BTA drive to encourage young visitors
The British Tourist Authority is aiming to find new ways to bring young visitors to Britain.
A Youth Industry Project Group (YIPG) is targeting the 4.5m young people (under 25) who come to Britain each year and stay a total of almost 60 million nights. The YIPG hopes to build on the £2.3bn spent by this sector.
'Britain is already an popular extremely destination for young people from around the world, sometimes as a gateway into Europe, and the four core themes of the BTA's new UK OK initiative - heritage, countryside, cities and sport - all have exceptional appeal,' said Jeff Hamblin, chief executive.
Other organisations represented on the YIPG forum include the Federation of International Youth Travel Organisations, STA Travel, the British Council, TNT Magazine and the UK's national tourist boards: www.uktheguide.com
