Barry Waterfront plans submitted
A consortium of property companies have submitted a planning application for the £250m transformation of Barry waterfront in South Wales to the Vale of Glamorgan Council (VGC).
The Barry Waterfront Consortium - comprising Persimmon Homes, Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpey - is behind the plans for the mixed-use scheme, which includes a large café quarter and new open space and park areas. A new link road to Barry Island, residential accommodation and retail units are also proposed as part of the proposals, which were drawn up following a public consultation earlier this year.
It is hoped that the scheme, which is expected to take between 10-12 years to complete, will create a sustainable community centred around the town's waterfront and complement existing facilities. A spokesperson for the consortium said: "Following the detailed public consultation exercise that took place earlier this summer, the consortium acknowledged the comments of local people and made changes to the scheme prior to the application being submitted to the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
"The council will now consider the final proposals before deciding whether to grant planning permission to enable this significant project to go ahead and open up 100 acres (40.5 hectares) of land within the town for public use."
