Batley centre's gym reopens
The last phase of a £4.6m redevelopment programme at Batley Sports and Tennis Centre in West Yorkshire has been completed.
The centre's former fitness suite has been completely remodelled and re-fitted with equipment supplied by Technogym.
The 40-station suite is part of the larger revamp of the facility, which included the upgrading of the centre's swimming pool and six badminton courts.
Investment for the project was provided by a £1.75m government grant, a £2.75m contribution from Kirklees Council and £140,000 from Kirklees Active Leisure.
The Batley Swimming Initiative will build on the already substantial investment of £11.1m invested by the council and Kirklees Active Leisure over the last seven years into improving and modernising sports centres and swimming pools across Kirklees.
The centre's newly recruited fitness manager, Rory Docherty, said: "We plan to implement standards, increase retention and increase membership numbers. It will be a big challenge but great fun."
