Belfast leisure scene needs fresh approach, says property agent
John Martin, director of Belfast property agents Osborne King, has warned that Belfast’s pub and bar scene is reaching saturation point, although does feel there are still opportunities for individual-looking venues.
“Belfast is well accommodated for pubs, clubs and bars, but the venues are all much of a muchness,” he said.
“What Belfast needs is someone to come along with fresh ideas. There’s an opportunity for someone to come in and show us a new way of doing things.”
Brendan Mullan, chief executive of Investment Belfast, an organisation dedicated to attracting new funding for the city, feels there is room for everyone: “Belfast is a city emerging successfully from conflict. To date it’s been local businesses that have responded to this, and to the needs of a young, high earning population in Belfast.
“There is certainly room for the market to expand to include brand names as well as our own entrepreneurs.” See also Leisure Property October 2003, p 82
