Bike trails expanded at Cannock Forest
A mountain bike centre in Cannock Forest near Rugeley, Staffordshire, is set to undergo a revamp to improve its facilities.
The Forestry Commission is building a range of new single-track mountain bike trails and adding features to existing cross-country, downhill and leisure trails.
The new tracks will range from an easy green route for families and beginners to blue and red courses for enthusiasts and small sections of black trail for expert cyclists.
Funding came from Chase Trails volunteers, the Staffordshire Aggregates Levy Grant Scheme, and the National Lottery funded Community Investment Fund via Sport England’s West Midlands Regional Sports Board (RSB).
Jason Maclean, environment manager at Cannock Chase, said: “There are no facilities of this type, scale or quality within an hour’s drive of the centre, so the new trails will help establish Cannock Chase as a regional centre for cycling.”
