Blackpool to achieve world heritage status?
Blackpool council in Lancashire, UK has published a draft Heritage Strategy in its bid to see the town achieving world heritage status as the first working-class seaside resort.
The council believes that heritage is a key driver in the future sustainable regeneration of the town.
Focusing on a five-year heritage action plan, the strategy emphasises Blackpool’s significance as the ‘quintessential British seaside holiday resort’.
The council has begun the consultation process, which will take in members of the local community alongside the public, private, community and voluntary sectors.
After the consultation period is complete in mid-April, the draft will be revised and then formally launched this summer. Details: www.blackpool.gov.uk
