Bournemouth Opera House reopens
Bournemouth Opera House has reopened after an eight-month, £2m refurbishment.
Its owners, Solent Leisure, have converted the Grade II-listed building from a nightclub into a multipurpose entertainment venue, for concerts, conferences, exhibitions and balls.
The Opera House now boasts a main auditorium and a gallery. The auditorium can hold 1,800 people across three floors, with 1,100 standing on the ground floor, or 500 seated on the ground floor, while the gallery can hold 400 reception-style. There are also 12 private booths and two royal boxes.
Group entertainments manager, Ester Gill, said: “The Opera House offers a unique combination of facilities day or night in an innovative and dramatic environment, providing the best venue for a corporate event or for a night of hospitality for clients, special occasions, or just an intimate gathering of friends in the most stunning of locations.”
The Opera House opened in 1895 as the Boscombe Grand Theatre, before coming a music venue in 1905, ballrooms in 1956 and the Academy nightclub in 1982. Details: www.operahouse.co.uk
