Bournemouth Pier to house £3m attraction
Bournemouth Pier owner and operator Openwide International has submitted plans for the £3m transformation of the venue's Pier Theatre into an indoor adventure sports attraction.
Operating under the RockReef brand, the development will feature a standing wave surfing attraction; climbing walls; bouldering walls; and an indoor high ropes course. New changing rooms; retail; food and drink areas; and an improved foyer space are also to form part of Openwide's proposed transformation of the venue.
Current fairground rides and games will be replaced under the plans lodged with the local authority, with Openwide hoping to encourage "active participation and sporting fun". Openwide managing director Steve Cutbush said: "The scheme aims to encourage active participation and sporting fun and introduce children and new users to fitness activities in a fun and entertaining format.
"We also want to provide experienced users and local residents with training facilities, and become a social hub to the local community." Image: Bournemouth Pier – Graffity
