Bournemouth waterfront shortlist revealed
A water park and tropical gardens are among shortlisted ideas for the proposed redevelopment of Bournemouth's waterfront IMAX building, according to the local authority.
Bournemouth Borough Council (BBC) has published the list of seven options it believes are the most viable proposals for the project, which follows a public consultation exercise. An interactive arts activity centre and museum; a spa; performing arts space and an amphitheatre; boutiques and bistros and a family play park are also included on the shortlist.
BBC leader Stephen MacLoughlin said: "There are now a number of exciting options on our shortlist. The eventual development may include a combination of these, and we need the public's views to help us prioritise. "As well as public opinion, we'll need to consider how commercially viable each option would be, as well as how much space it would require - including the size of any replacement building on the site."
Suggestions for a large swimming pool and an ice rink were ruled out by the council due to being "better located" elsewhere in the town, while other ideas were ruled out due to not being attractive enough to potential investors.
