Powys County Council has announced plans to restore Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery in Brecon, near Cardiff.

The council is working with consultants Capita Symonds to deliver an application for Heritage Lottery Funding for the regeneration of the museum's Grade II-listed building.

Options for the museum include a rooftop or ground-floor cafe, new exhibition space, function space and educational resources, as well as a new frontage which will retain its original portico.

Dr Angela Gaffney, national partnerships manager for National Museum of Wales, said: " We believe the future redevelopment of Brecknock Museum and Gallery will be an outstanding addition to the heritage of both Powys and Wales. New facilities in Brecon will further improve the preservation, presentation and promotion of culture in Wales."
