British bartenders triumph in New Orleans
British bartenders triumphed at the first annual Southern Comfort cocktail competition in the birthplace of the spirit, New Orleans.
The competition was the culmination of a two-day stay in the city, with a team of seven bartenders from the UK taking on seven of New Orleans’ finest mixologists.
In the mixing arena, the UK team won the Mix-Off trophy, while William Edelin de La Praudiere from London’s Town House bar took home the Best of Show award for his ‘Little Lou’ drink, which was apparently inspired by Southern Comfort’s global brand ambassador, Lou Giglio.
The winner of the individual competition was Stephanie Story from Austin’s bar in New Orleans with her ‘Comfortini’ concoction, with two UK runners-up taking second and third place.
Commenting on the competition, Lou Giglio said: “It was a really exciting couple of days with the teams swapping many recipe ideas and bartending tips. It’s disappointing not to see the trophy stay in the US but we’ll win it back next year!”
