CCPR to rebrand and change name
The Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR) is to change its name to Sport and Recreation Alliance (SRA).
The name change was approved at the organisation's annual general meeting, chaired by its new president, the Earl of Wessex, and follows a long period of consultation with CCPR members, staff and other stakeholders.
Brigid Simmonds, CCPR chair, believes the name change will help the organisation communicate the views of the sport and recreation community more effectively.
"The aim of this change is simply to represent our members better," she said.
"Increasingly, feedback has told us that our name is an impediment to people understanding what we do - especially those who are new to sport and recreation. As an organisation which seeks to be influential and well-known, that is a real barrier to meeting our objectives."
