Cardiff Council agrees three-year deal to revamp playgrounds
Cardiff City Council has signed a three-year deal with playground designer and manufacturer SMP to develop sites earmarked as part of the council’s Parks and Green Spaces Strategy.
Eleven playgrounds have been selected for the first year of the deal, worth £350,000, with planning for 2009 and 2010 in progress.
Paul Freeman, parks development officer at Cardiff City Council, said: "This project has come about following a strategic review of the provision, maintenance and replacement of play equipment in our parks. It is a key element in the Parks and Green Spaces Strategy.
“The Council is now investing a substantial sum of money over the next three years to ensure the city benefits even more from its parkland and green space.”
Liz Bright, European sales and marketing manager at SMP, added: "By carrying out high profile consultations among local residents, we hope they will be encouraged to make time spent at one of Cardiff's parks central to their daily lives.
“We're planning to install eye-catching equipment, which, for some areas, will be the first of their type to be seen by local residents. We believe the recreational space delivered by this project will be something for local residents to be proud of."
