Cardiff temporary ice rink opening delayed
Cardiff Council has announced that the temporary ice rink at the International Sports Village in Cardiff will now open on 30 November, almost two months later than expected.
Council leader Rodney Berman said: “Nobody is more disappointed than the council, but the delay is due to contractor setbacks which are not of the council’s making.
“Development contractor Ice Associates has indicated that the rink will be finished in November and we are working hard with them and the operator – Planet Ice – to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible.”
The £2.5m council-funded temporary ice rink – which will comprise 2,000 seats, changing facilities, offices and cafés – will be in place for three to five years before being replaced by a permanent facility within a new multi-purpose arena.
The arena – funded by the proposed regional casino – will feature a 4,000-capacity ice hockey rink. Details: www.cardiff.gov.uk
