Cineworld reports strong results
Cineworld, the UK cinema group, has reported positive results for its first full year as a public company.
Pre-tax profit more than doubled in the 52 weeks to 31 December, jumping from £12.4m to £27.6m, while group revenue increased from £285.3m to £298.9m.
Stephen Wiener, chief executive of Cineworld Group, said: “We are very pleased with the performance of the group over the year, especially in light of the difficult economic conditions and softening consumer environment.
“While the new year has started well for the group, with strong attendances in a number of small and mid-range films, we are mindful of the challenges that 2009 will present as consumers tighten their belts.”
Box office takings rose 6.4 per cent to £197.5m, while admissions remained largely unchanged, rising from 45 to 45.1m.
