City of Cape Town plans investment in new sports facilities
The City of Cape Town has announced plans for new sports facilities in Imizamo Yethu and Dunoon, South Africa, as part of a programme to restore "past imbalances".
Dunoon sports fields are to be upgraded in the first of the two projects, which is to include a new cricket pitch; netball and basketball courts; and a new clubhouse facility.
Stormwater drainage will also be installed as part of the project, which is due for completion by June 2013 and will cost ZAR2m (US$239,000, EUR190,000, £151,000).
Meanwhile, a ZAR5m (US$598,000, EUR475,000, £377,000) complex at Imizamo Yethu is to include two sports fields and ablution facilities for teams currently using the grounds.
Tandeka Gqada, mayoral committee member for community services, said: "With these facilities, we are once again committing to our promise of being a Caring and Inclusive City."
