Club Med criminal investigation continues
The investigation into the death of a seven-year old French boy who was killed in a swimming pool in Greece has led to the charging of several Club Med employees.
Axel Blin died after being sucked into the filtering system at the Athenia Village Club Mediterraneé site outside Athens.
Proceedings are in motion against the national manager for Greece, Olivier Bergeret, but Sylvain Barberet-Girardin, the Athenia Village manager and Alain Gille, the maintenance manager are facing the charges of voluntary manslaughter with possible premeditation.
It is believed that the boy died when the grille covering the filter system was removed by children causing massive internal injury. Club Med has ordered checks on sites worldwide, and the Athenia site is to close this week.
