Cocooned
Just launched into the UK's spa sector is the Cocoon, a compact, portable and easy to use relaxation system.
It consists of a large inflatable pad - driven by an air pump with a remote control handset - which cradles the upper body from the base of the head to the lower back and can be used either on a bed or on the floor.
As the Cocoon's air chambers expand, they stretch the back, neck and shoulders, and the upper body is supported by a pressure designed to replicate the sensations of floating and weightlessness.
When the Cocoon is deflated it gently lowers the head and upper body again.
Two settings are available: the automatic cycle which inflates and deflates four times over 20 minutes, and the manual cycle which can be customised to create a personal relaxation treatment.
Invented by Paul Smith, who trained as an Alexander Technique and Craniosacral therapist and has practised at both the Harbour Club in London and Flint House in Sussex, Cocoon is currently available by direct order only from Quiess Ltd.
