Cold weather hits Wetherspoon sales
Pub operator JD Wetherspoon has reported a 0.3 per cent decline in like-for-like sales during the first 12 weeks of the second quarter to 17 January 2010, as cold weather kept consumers at home.
Like-for-like sales for the first 10 weeks of the second quarter to 3 January 2010 had increased by 1.2 per cent, up nearly 1 per cent when compared with the first quarter to 25 October 2009, but have been hit by the inclement weather. Total sales for the first 12 weeks of the second quarter have increased by 3.7 per cent, however, which has contributed towards an increase of 4.1 per cent in total sales for the year to date.
JD Wetherspoon has also entered into discussions over the possible refinancing of its £435m debt facility, which is set to expire in December 2010. The company also expects to open 50 new pubs during the current financial year.
