UK Athletics (UKA) has announced that it is to part company with performance director Dave Collins with immediate effect.
The announcement comes after the athletics team fell one short of its Beijing Olympic Games medal target of five.
In a statement, UKA chief executive, Nils de Vos, said Collins will leave immediately, despite having a contract running until March 2009.
“Dave has led a radical overhaul of our performance systems which will provide solid foundations," de Vos said.
“However, we now need to take the next step on the performance ladder and give ourselves and British athletes the very best chance of success at a home Games in 2012."
