Colwyn Bay revamp plans put on display
Conwy County Borough Council's (CCBC) plans for the regeneration of Colwyn Bay, which are designed to enhance communities facilities and increase tourism, have been put on public display.
The Delivering Bay Life document outlines three key development priorities as part of the scheme, including the creation of a new centre of excellence for sport, leisure and culture at Parc Eirias following Rugbi Gogledd Cymru's (North Wales Rugby) decision to make the site its home ground. Existing council offices could be transformed into a new leisure hotel to complement the Parc Eirias proposals, while the Bay Life project also includes improved coastal defences and the regeneration of the town's waterfront area to offer enhanced community facilities and water sports provision.
The Welsh Assembly Government recently announced that it had committed £20m towards the redevelopment of communities along the North Wales coast - including Colwyn Bay - following the designation of a Strategic Regeneration Area. CCBC deputy leader Bethan Jones said: "It is vital that Colwyn Bay gets the maximum benefit from having strategic regeneration status. The Delivering Bay Life document sets out our priorities and will help guide us."
