Costa launches loyalty top-up card
The Costa coffee chain is set to roll out a value card scheme throughout its 400 UK stores by November.
The company aims to reduce queues and increase sales by introducing a store card which can be credited with up to £75 either in-store or through individual online customer accounts.
Mike Lawless, head of UK retail marketing, said: “As the coffee shop sector becomes increasingly competitive, improving customer loyalty and retention will be a fundamental driver of our long-term commercial success. The introduction of our stored-value card will be a key contributor in making Costa the number one coffee shop business in the UK.”
Trials in 22 sites across Birmingham and Glasgow during August and September showed that one in 10 customers signed up for the scheme. More than a third of the new cardholders used it on a daily basis and almost 50 per cent of those said they made a special trip to that specific store. Details: www.whitbread.co.uk
