Council backs tourist centre plans
One of two tourist information centres in Lincoln due to close later this year is now set to remain open after plans to take over the site were backed by the local authority.
The City of Lincoln Council (CLC) has approved proposals that will see Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG) continue to provide tourist information services at the Castle Square facility, subject to a 10-day call in period. Urusla Lidbetter, chair of Lincoln BIG, said: "Keeping an information centre open means that visitors will be able to find out about the fantastic range of things there is to do and see in Lincoln."
In March, CLC has agreed to close both the Castle Square and Cornhill tourist information centres, as well as withdrawing funding from its art service and the transfer of the city's marketing to Lincolnshire Tourism, as part of cost-cutting measures.
