Council refutes Livingston stadium agreement
West Lothian Council (WLC) has denied that it has reached a deal to sell Almondvale Stadium to Livingston Football Club (LFC), despite claims that an agreement had already been reached over the price.
LFC chair, Angelo Massone, will now meet with council officials on 7 May to discuss the possible acquisition of the venue by 30 June, having already issued a statement suggesting that a 'mutually agreed price' was in place. However, WLC leader Peter Johnston said: "We gave Livingston a deadline of 30 June to prove they have the funds in place to purchase the stadium. As part of these discussions, we also required Livingston to clear all outstanding debts to the council and accept a clause that allows us to buy back the stadium for the original purchase price were it not to be used for football.
"We are extremely concerned that Livingston have so far failed make any significant contribution to reduce their debt, and we are now forced to consider our legal options to recover the money due."
