Council to sell historic Mansfield maltings
Mansfield District Council (MDC) has announced that the town's vacant Maltings building will be sold at auction later this year in a bid to "speed up" restoration efforts.
The 20,000sq ft (1,858sq m) Grade II-listed malthouse dates back to the 18th century and forms part of Mansfield's brewing heritage. However, it has been empty since 2002 after the Village nightclub closed. Although planning permission has been approved for the building to be converted into offices, MDC said there are no restrictions on the venue's future use.
MDC portfolio holder for regeneration Kate Allsop said: "Despite the very best efforts of the council and its partners over a number of years, a number of regeneration proposals for the site have now failed to come to fruition for reasons beyond our control. "As a result we now feel the best hope of getting the Maltings back to its former glory is through its sale, with conditions in place to ensure it is restored to high standards and within specified timescales."
The auction is expected to take place on 12 October in Nottingham.
