Council unveils Thames Promenade plans
Reading Borough Council (RBC) has unveiled plans to create a new gateway into the town's riverside parks as part of a wider scheme designed to improve Thames Promenade.
The council's parks and open spaces team is looking to attract more visitors with a range of new and improved features as part of its Thames Parks Plan, which could include a pleasure boat mooring platform and a new picnic area. A tree planting programme and new entrances to the riverside parks also form part of the proposals, which have generated an "encouraging response" from the Green City and Open Spaces Forum.
RBC deputy leader Tony Page said: "This is an area of which Reading is very proud, and the landscape plan proposals include creating entrances and signage at Promenade Road, Rivermead car park, a pleasure boat mooring platform and a new pedestrian entrance off Richfield Avenue. "The Council wants to improve biodiversity with new tree planting along Richfield Avenue, the Promenade strip, around the Rivermead entrance and riverbank, with new hedgerows near Cow Lane."
